Our Story

Hi there! I’m Alex- owner and head flower lady at Root & Blossom Flower Farm. Five years ago, I started growing flowers as a way to release stress that was accumulating from a demanding corporate job. I had a postage stamp sized plot, a few seeds, and strong urge to create something that would bring me joy. The more I was able to get my hands in the dirt and grow flowers, the more at peace I was. My first season, I was absolutely hooked! I gave away as many flowers as I could, and I quickly decided that I would try my hand at farmers markets. Now, you can typically find us at the Salem New Hampshire Farmers market on Sundays during the summer months.

I spent my childhood raised on the farm land where our flower operation is located in the Merrimack Valley area of Massachusetts. My grandfather grew up on the same street that I was raised on, and he was the son of a hard working chicken farmer. He was raised doing hard farm chores, but gained an invaluable appreciation of the land, how different plants grew best in our area, and the dedication it took to operate a farm. He moved from farming on to become a successful carpenter, and architect, but his heart was never far from the farm. He purchased the land next door to the farm house he grew up in, and built a home where he lived happily married to my grandmother for over 50 years and raised two children. Although his days as a full time farmer were behind him, he always maintained a massive vegetable garden, and was never far from his tractor.

I was lucky enough to have grown up living right next door to him, where he taught me the same appreciation for the land, and an understanding of how a little dirt, patience, and hard work can produce something beautiful.

My grandfather passed away on July 31, 2021. I’ve since moved our flower growing operation to the same farm land that my grandfather loved so much. Root & Blossom Flower farm is an ode to my grandfather’s legacy. It’s honoring the memory of his life, and our family’s history- our {Roots}. It’s also my families future. It’s my happy place, my creative space, and a place where I can help spread happiness, share beauty with others, and provide a space for others and myself to {Blossom}.
